Variable Spectrum Synthesizer

We are developing a novel system capable of synthesizing multiple arbitrary spectra using an arc lamp, a grating spectrograph to disperse the light, a digital micromirror device (DMD™) to select wavelengths and intensities, and optics to recombine the selected spectra.  The system was first used as a biomedical research tool, but other applications are possible.   The system operates in two modes; an area spectrum mode and a line mode.  This system delivers light containing multiple, independently controlled spectra spanning 250nm to 1100nm that can be controlled on a 20 microsecond time scale for unaltered intensity applications.

Below is the device and an area mode spectrum with leveled intensities for each wavelength.
