A genetic features computation and visualization server

PANORAMA is an Internet-accessible software tool that performs a variety of different useful analyses on a given DNA sequence and gives a visual representation of the results. Output includes an interactive JAVA applet, pdf image file (for non-JAVA enabled computers) and detailed text results.  It is an integrated software package that takes an input sequence and

  • compares it against EST and non-EST Genbank
  • predicts exons, and then compares them against protein sequences
  • CpG islands and polymorphic markers
  • identifies human repetitive regions and simple sequences
  • predicts potential DNA structures like triplexes, tetraplexes, and Z-DNA
  • and there are new functions and features all the time.

The utility of PANORAMA was demonstrated in the analysis of 750 kb human genomic DNA sequence in chromosome region 3p21.3, a region of potential tumor suppressor genes (TSGs) involved in lung, breast and other forms of cancer. PANORAMA aided in the discovery of genes, alternate splice forms of known exons, demarcation of intron - exon boundaries, promoter region identification and polymorphisms. PANORAMA is available on the World Wide Web and can be run on any given sequence at http://atlas.swmed.edu. PANORAMA ultimately aims at being a "one-stop" comprehensive sequence analysis software tool available over the World Wide Web to users with minimal informatics expertise. As a step towards this goal, further sequence analysis tools will be added to PANORAMA in the future.
