Research Interests:
I am interested in the uses of literature and other types of data mining
for addressing biomedical questions. This includes the application of existing
data
mining software to microarray analysis, disease research, and drug discovery,
as
well as the development of new data analysis methods for better understanding
experimental data.
Current
Projects:
The main project I am working on currently is a new method of analyzing
gene lists using literature-derived relationships. A second project
I am involved
in investigates the uses of existing gene chip technology for making
novel types of comparisons. In addition to these projects, I occasionally
get to
collaborate with other groups to assist in the analysis and interpretation
of experimental data from their labs.
Educational Background:
Master of Arts in Microbiology, University of Texas at Austin,
1998.
Bachelor of Science in Microbiology, University of Texas at Austin,
1994.
Duties and Goals:
I attempt to analyze the usefulness of some of the new computational
tools and methods developed by the group from the research/molecular
biology standpoint. I also try to develop new analytical
methods and techniques when
I find a need for them. I would like to continue learning in this field
because I enjoy the
multidisciplinary opportunities and interactions.
During my spare time:
I enjoy reading (mostly historical and biographical nonfiction)
, listening to music (classical, pop, jazz), watching pro football,
movies, and
bicycling.
