Oldstyle This typestyle is based on the handwritten text of scribes. The pens they used had a flat, wedged tip that were held at an angle, such as calligraphy pens, thus giving you a stroke with a thick and thin transition along a curve. Oldstyle fonts always have a serif that is at an angle on lowercase letters, due to the angle of the pen. Most of the fonts in this style look very similar. This is a good choice if you are setting a large block of text because it is the easiest to read. Books and magazines use this style for their text (Williams).
