Typography is another way of saying designing with type. It concerns with the appearance of words and letters by their attributes which include font style, size, color and placement. There are countless typeface or font styles readily available. Because of this, choosing an appropriate style may seem difficult. However, by just keeping in mind a few guidelines, you will no longer just pick fonts arbitrarily and will understand why some work well and others don't depending on your design. To begin with, we will divide all the letterforms into six categories; Oldstyle, Modern, Slab Serif, Sans Serif, Script and Decorative. There could be more categories but we can generalize most of them into these six. The idea is to start looking at type more carefully. By categorizing fonts you will become aware of the similarities and differences typefaces may have. In turn, you will then be more aware of what styles work better.
