Continuance
The concept of continuance refers to our tendency to look in a particular direction do to a dominant element in a composition. Our attention may be directed by a visible or imaginary line. Perspective lines such as those we see on a highway have a strong effect on focusing our attention(1). Imaginary lines include a pointing finger(2) or even the direction a person is looking(3). Continuance is a very effective way of purposefully directing a viewer's attention (Saw).
