Color Contrast
Color contrast refers to the interaction one color has over another. Colors will appear brighter or duller when placed next to another. If the colors are complements of each other, they will appear the brightest than with any other color. This effect is called simultaneous contrast. Contrast is based on the color characteristics, hue, value and saturation. The center circles are all the same color but are perceived as being different because of the contrast produced by the color that surrounds it. This visual effect is used to help bring more interest and balance to a piece of work and to direct an observers attention (Mundi).
