Project: Gene Expression Microarray Analysis and Interpretation Champion: Cristi Galindo In addition to utilizing our own custom arrays to examine the roles of microsatellites in speciation, cancer, and other human disease conditions, we also serve as the bioinformatics core for the Western Regional Center of Excellence (WRCE) for Biodefense and Emerging Infectious Diseases. Additionally, we have several collaborative relationships with laboratories at UTSW and other research institutes, including the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and Texas A&M. We assist these researchers in experimental design and also perform data analysis (mainly derived from gene expression microarrays) and interpretation. Our analysis methods include the use of multiple statistical parameters in order to reduce false positives while also minimizing false negatives. Analyses are tailored to the experimental design by including biologically relevant filtering mechanisms specific to the experimental objectives. Publication-quality reports, including figures, methods, and results interpretation, are typically generated to aid the researcher in producing subsequent manuscripts. We also commonly participate in the writing and editing process itself. An example of a putative pathway is shown below:
